Findings
- The difference between the region with the most emissions per thousand euros of GDP, the Northern EU, and the region with the least, the Western EU, is 36.28 metric tons.
- The Northern EU emits 2.34 times the carbon dioxide per thousand dollars of GDP that the Western EU does.
- Only the Northern EU emits more than 50 metric tons in this metric.

- The Northern EU consists of Sweden, Denmark, and Finland.
- The Eastern EU consists of Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.
- The Southern EU consists of Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, and Malta.
- The Western EU consists of Germany, United Kingdom, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Ireland, and Luxembourg.
Details
Only one state (Luxembourg) from the Western EU tops the Northern EU's rate while only one state (Sweden) from the Northern EU emits less than the Western EU as a whole. The Northern EU emits the most on a per capita basis as well.
The European Union as a whole emits 31.66 metric tons of carbon dioxide per thousand euros of GDP from transportation sources annually ranking it way under the Eastern EU and just above the Southern EU.
