The chart above shows the per capita GDP and change in per capita GDP over the last year in EU and US states in US dollars.  Although US states make up eight of the top ten states in per capita GDP, the top state is an EU one, and the top ten growth states as well as growth rate states all come from the EU.  The fastest growing US state, Wyoming, comes in 12th with less than half the per capita GDP growth of the fastest growing EU state, Ireland.  In addition, the US state with the best growth rate, West Virginia, comes in behind every EU state save for the United Kingdom, with less than one-fourth the growth rate of the leading EU state in the metric, Romania.

The chart above shows the per capita GDP and change in per capita GDP over the last year in EU states.  Luxembourg continues to maintain a commending lead in per capita GDP while Ireland had the greatest growth in the metric last year and Romania had the greatest growth rate.

The chart above shows the per capita GDP and change in per capita GDP over the last year in US states.  Only six states witnessed a contraction in their per capita GDP in the past year, while Wyoming had the greatest growth in the metric and West Virginia had the greatest growth rate.

The chart above shows the per capita GDP and change in per capita GDP over the last ten years in EU and US regions in US dollars.  All four EU regions experienced a contraction in per capita GDP when priced in US dollars over the past ten years.  A good chunk of that contraction came from fluctuations in the values of the euro and the dollar.

The chart above shows the per capita GDP and change in per capita GDP over the last ten years in EU regions.  In the past ten years, the Northern EU has gone from being one of two regions with a per capita GDP of over €30,000 to the only region with a per capita GDP of over €40,000.

The chart above shows the per capita GDP and change in per capita GDP over the last ten years in US regions.  In the past ten years, the Northeast has gone from being one of two regions with a per capita GDP of over $50,000 to the only region with a per capita GDP of over $60,000.

The chart above shows the per capita GDP and change in per capita GDP over the last ten years in EU and US states in US dollars.  Luxembourg continues to maintain the highest per capita GDP of all EU and US states by far.  However, there are only two other EU states in the top 25 (out of 78): Ireland with the eighth highest per capita GDP and Denmark with the 25th.

The chart above shows the per capita GDP and change in per capita GDP over the last ten years in US states.  North Dakota had both the greatest absolute growth in per capita GDP as well as the greatest growth rate in per capita GDP in the ten year period.

The chart above shows the per capita GDP and change in per capita GDP over the last ten years in EU states.  Malta had the largest growth rate but Luxembourg had the greatest absolute growth in the ten-year period.  Greece and Cyprus were the only two states whose per capita GDP contracted in the period.

The chart above shows the GDP and change in GDP over the last year in EU and US regions in US dollars.  All four EU regions had higher growth rates than all four US regions in the past year.
